Ben’s Broken Arm

Every Mom’s worst fear….getting a call from school saying you child was hurt.  Ben fell of the slide at school. They weren’t sure how bad it was so they kept it stabilized and called Jake at work.  Jake was in a meeting so he called Grandma to see how bad it was.  Sure enough, she called and told Jake to meet at the doctor.  Dr. Burns took one look and send them to the ER.  I got the call on the way to the ER because they didn’t want to worry me until they knew what was going on.  I got Regan ready and we headed to the hospital.  This poor kid :(  The x-rays were very hard to read.  They sent the images to a specialist in Portland.  His humorous was broken right above the elbow and possible dislocation of the ulna head.  We were finally sent home and had to head to Emmanuel Hospital to see a Pediatric Specialist to see what the next step was.  We were just praying for the best. 

They put him on some pretty strong narcotics to help with the pain.  This made him really out of it and very temperamental.

We headed up to Portland the next day.  The best we could hope for happened.  Just broken.  AND he could get his cast off in 4 weeks which is the exact day we leave for Florida!  They squeezed us in the day we fly out!  Thank goodness! We tried to talk him in to many different colors but the boy insisted on black because they match his running shoes :)  Who passes out with a ring pop in their mouth?

First day bak to school after the accidentThe first couple weeks were TOUGH.  A newborn and a 3 year old who now needs help with everything!!  He adapted and started using his hand more and more each day.  We were told to keep him quiet and not let him do much.  Anyone who knows Ben can get a good laugh at this.  Before we knew it he was climbing the rock wall with a broken arm.
