Happy Baby!
I haven't posted anything lately so I thought I should. Not too much is going on here. We are still working on nursing. I will take her Thursday to get weighed. It seems to be going well. We have also been working on Callie Beth sleeping in her co-sleeper in our room and not in our bed. I have also been putting her to bed sleepy but awake so she gets the hang of putting herself to sleep. She has done wonderful the last few nights!

Smile
We went yesterday to get Callie Beth weighed. We have been nursing for 1 week and she has gained 3 ounces since then. She is now up to 8 pounds 9 ounces. The lactation specialist told me not to be surprised if she lost weight because she was used to 3 oz. every 2-3 hours and she probably isn't getting that now. Although it isn't much, I am happy she is gaining. We just need to work on her not being a lazy eater!
Here is a picture from this morning. Sorry it isn't so good, it is from my phone. She is smiling more each day. So amazing!

1 month old
Today Callie Beth is 1 month old. I can't believe how fast it has gone by. It seems like a blur. I took her shopping today for the first time. We went up to the outlets and she was amazing.
Highlights:
*She is a great sleeper. I think she would sleep through the night if I didn't wake her up to eat.
*I think nursing is going well. We go back to the doctor for a weight check Thursday.
*She loves the sun
*Her eyes are still blue.
*She is really brave and holds her head up pretty well till she gets tired.
*She loves to look at herself in the mirror.
*She loves her baths.
*We are starting to see more smiles each day.
*She knows my voice and will turn her head to find me.
*She loves her swing. She found herself in the mirror on the swing and just stares at herself.
*She still gets the hiccups a lot. Sometimes it sounds like she swallowed a squeaky toy.
*She has developed baby acne. It is yucky but doesn't bother her at all.

Sunbathing
Not too much has been going on. We have been working on nursing so there isn't too much to report. She seems to be doing well. Sometimes she is very content after and sometimes she is fussy. When she is fussy, I usually wait about an hour and nurse again till she is happy. I will take her to the doctor this week to check her weight. I really hope she is gaining.
We have had beautiful weather the last couple of days. Callie Beth LOVES being outside. Every time we would take her in, she would fuss. We ended up bringing her bouncy seat out and loading her up with sunscreen. She loves the sun just like her mom.

Here, Jake is blowing on her...as you can tell, she doesn't like it.

sleeping beauty
Here are a couple pics of her sleeping. Such an angel. She is getting more of a personality each day...letting us know what she likes and does not like. I have a dentist appt. tomorrow for a cleaning (CB will be joining me. They actually told me to bring her. This has been Jake's dentist since he was little). I am going to go grocery shopping with her for the first time too. Lets hope it goes well. Thursday will be the day I go back to nursing. It is going to be a long few days. I really hope we can go back to it.

Happy Easter
3 weeks Old
It has been an interesting weekend. I mentioned that Jake was sick the other night. He thought it was food poisoning but I had my doubts. Turns out, it was the 24 hour stomach bug. I woke up in the middle of the night Friday with it also. Boy, it was a rough go of it. I don't recommend this happening with a 3 week old. We are feeling somewhat better today.

Yea!
Wednesday night was the annual shareholders meeting at the bank. Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Postlewait always make their way down to the coast each year for this meeting. This year, they got to meet their new great granddaughter. Callie Beth slept the entire time (I fed her right before). Every person comments on her hair.
Kacy Jo came over yesterday to take her newborn pics. She did our pics for the wedding. This was her first time taking pictures of a baby. I am sure they will turn out great. I can't wait to see them.
Last night I had my first experience of taking care of two people at the same time. When Jake got home from work, he wasn't feeling so good. Around 7, he began throwing up. It continued all night. Needless to say, between feedings, pumping, and taking care of Jake, we didn't get much sleep.
We went back to the doctor today to check her weight. Finally, good news! She gained 6 ounces in 3 days. Dr. Burns was very impressed. She is now back up to 8 pounds 2 ounces. He said when she gets to 8.8 or 8.10, I can try training her to nurse again (at her rate, that should be in about 3 to 4 days). Until then, I need to keep pumping and giving her bottles of the breast milk.
Here is her hair after a bath without brushing it.
I wrapped her up for a little nap before the doctor and this is how I find her.

frustrating
So we went to the doctor today for a weight check and jaundice check. Not good news...she has only gained 2 ounces since last visit. I knew we were having problems nursing but the last 5 days have been going well (so I thought). So what we think is happening is that CB is using me as comfort and not as a source of food. She latches on and then soothes herself to sleep. She should be done with a nursing session in 20 minutes but it is taking her an hour. That means she is not getting enough feeding sessions in. It is heart breaking because she seems so happy but she isn't getting enough food. So after all the progress we have made, we are back to the bottle. I have to pump and give it to her so we know how much she is getting. I know it is still great that she is getting breast milk but it just isn't what I wanted. What is most important is that she is healthy and gains weight. Once she gaining weight, I am going to have to try to re-train her nursing. Back to the beginning....
We go back to the doctor on Friday to check her progress...lets hope she starts gaining more!!

beautiful weather
We have had some beautiful weather the last couple days....I put the sunglasses on CB. They were a little big. Daddy came home for lunch today before leaving for Portland. CB is starting to entertain herself a little more each day. I set up her Boppy play mat which she seemed to enjoy. The first day alone is going great so far...lets hope tonight is the same :)

2 weeks old
Where have the last 2 weeks gone? It seems like such a blur. Here is a pic of her last night. As you can see, her color is so much better. Jake is going back to work tomorrow. In fact, he has to go to Portland so it will be the first night alone with CB. It has been so nice to have him home...in a perfect world we would be able to be home all the time together. I can now start looking forward to the weekends.

adjusting
Well, we have been very busy adjusting to having a little one and having many visitors stop by. One thing that has been a life saver is people bringing over meals. We have not cooked since we got home from the hospital. We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family! Nursing is still very challenging. We are taking it day by day. CB goes to the doctor on Tuesday...I can't wait to see how much she weighs. Here are a few cute pics...
