Best Friends and Little Fish

The neighbors at the beach cabin have a dog named Hazel.  She is such a sweet dog and visits everyone throughout the day.  Her collar says “My name is Hazel.  I live at the beach.  If I am bothering you tell me to go home”.  She really goes go home.  One neighbor has a bed for her.  We saw her on the deck of another house.  She makes her rounds to the camp fires and even attended a wedding on the beach this weekend.

Needless to say, Callie Beth and Hazel became good buds.  She would just come right in when we were eating.

IMG_3920“Here Hazel, I will share with you”IMG_3921Of course after the great food she had, she made it over for breakfast the next morning and headed straight over to CB.  Wonder why…IMG_3923IMG_3925 Busted by Dad….IMG_3926 CB has turned into a little fish lately.  She seemed really bored with her other float and she wants to be independent and do things on her own (like jump in without us around).  I thought I would try out some swimmies to see how she would do.

She did awesome!  She got the hand of it right away.  It was as if she had done it before.  She did this the entire time by herself.  She loved to go on her belly and by the end was even spinning around from her back to her belly!  Love it!

Early morning walk

Here are some pictures from our early morning walk on the beach to find sand dollars!  Couldn’t have been more beautiful!

IMG_3866IMG_3874IMG_3880IMG_3882 Success!  They found two!  CB’s first sand dollars!IMG_3883IMG_3884IMG_3890 She got the biggest kick out of chasing me up and down the beach.  She could have done this for hours!IMG_3898IMG_3902IMG_3903IMG_3907So happy!IMG_3914

Cannon Beach 2010: Sunny days

We had a wonderful long weekend up at the beach cabin.  Yes, we live near the beach but it is so nice to get away and just relax (as much as you can with a one year old).

I wish I had eye lashes like hers…IMG_3805Yay!  I love the beach!!! IMG_3807She has started to copy us when one of us crosses our arms…what a ham! IMG_3809IMG_3810 This child LOVES to dance.  Many times a day she comes up to me and says “dance” and does a little dance move…this means “mom, will you please turn the music on.”  I guess she was really excited here because she started dancing on the beach.IMG_3813IMG_3814IMG_3816IMG_3817 Taking a break on the steps!IMG_3823IMG_3826 Time with MomIMG_3832IMG_3845

For those of you who don’t know…weather on the Oregon coast is CRAZY….and the water is COLD!  I was a little concerned about Callie Beth and the water.  We recently got back from Charleston where we couldn’t keep her out of the water.  Well, this itty bitty thing would freeze if she played in the water like she did in SC.

Here is her first feel of the water since our trip.IMG_3847 “Oh My Goodness!!!”  I think it took her breath away!IMG_3848"Should I go back??”IMG_3850"No way!  This is great!”IMG_3851IMG_3852Daddy trying to warm up the piggies IMG_3857IMG_3859Jake made a great fit pit for us on the beach…having a fire at night listening to the water is a perfect way to end a day.IMG_3828

Hodgepodge

This post is going to have a mixture of different things.

Cousins:  Callie Beth was really great with Nolan.  I was a little worried at first because for a little while she wasn’t exactly gentle with her other cousin, Gwynn (who is 5 months younger than she is).  All she wanted to do was give him kisses and help him by taking out and putting his binky in his mouth and wanting to feed him a bottle.  IMG_2692IMG_2699IMG_2734 Here, she walked over to Mandy when she was giving Nolan a bottle.  She took the bottle out of Mandy’s hand and out of Nolan’s mouth.  She then put it back in Nolan’s mouth and helped feed him.  I really don’t know where she got that from…she isn’t around younger kids too much.  What a good helper…and thankfully Nolan was a patient little boy.  1 Callie Beth and Breck playing one morning in Asheville.  991My loves again… IMG_3636IMG_3637 So here wraps up our wonderful Carolina trip.  We had such a amazing time.  I got to meet my nephew who is just adorable.  Also, I really needed to get away and just enjoy time with my family in the sun.  I am so glad that Jake gets along so well with my family and friends.

Thank you so much to the Hemphill Family for your wonderful hospitality.  I won’t get too much into it because it makes me sad being so far away.  We miss you so much!  Every day Callie Beth randomly asks for Huck.  :(

Mike took up to the airport in Charlotte and we had just enough time (so I thought) for a quick bite to eat, diaper change, and board the plane.  As soon as we get to the gate, the nice lady tells me that our plane is 3 hours delayed….GREAT!!!  That meant we would miss our connection in Houston.  She did tell us that she would be able to get us a direct flight from Charlotte to Portland and we would only be getting in 20 minutes later than our original plan but the flight didn’t leave for 4 more hours.  Not too bad!?!?  Well, If I didn’t have a one year old, this sounds great.  4 more hours in the airport with a little one who needed a nap and then a 5 and a half hour flight with a 2 and a half hour drive home to the coast.  I was exhausted just thinking about it….BUT it could have been A LOT worse!

We were determined to get this little girl to take a nap so she wouldn’t be over tired and throw a fit on the plane.  I now know the Charlotte airport like the back of my hand.  I walked this little girl in the stroller for an hour and a half.  She LOVED people watching and relaxing but she didn’t shut her eyes once.  WONDERFUL!  I was so excited for the long flight with an overtired one year old.  (sense the sarcasm?)

Callie Beth actually did remarkable…till the end.  She cried for about 5 minutes and then slept on Jake and I for 3 hours and 45 minutes.  She played and ate snacks the rest of the time.  The flight was pretty empty (which you don’t see much these days) so we had an extra seat.  She was perfect.

I don’t know if I mentioned it before but CB had en ear infection before we left.  I took her in to make sure it was okay to fly and everything looked pretty good.  The doc told me although it looked so much better, it could still bother her while flying.  Well, it did.  During the decent, CB pulled on her ear.  I immediately put Binky in her mouth.  Nope, it didn’t help.  She started vomiting all over her, her seat, and me.  Poor little girl.  Jake and the flight attendant were doing everything they could to help and we were all out of our seats during landing.  Talk about a great ending!!!  UHHH!  Needless to say, I was SO glad to be done flying.
