Sunshiny Days

It has been absolutely gorgeous here the last few days.  Sunny and in the 60s.  What a treat for February at the Oregon coast!  Callie Beth has been battling a fever since Saturday morning so we have been trying to nurse her back to health.  They don’t really know what is going on.  The poor girl looks sick and run down but is happy as can be.  No other symptoms!  The fever finally went down this afternoon (let’s hope it stay gone).  Any ideas what is going on?

Happy Valentine’s Day

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.  Ours was as best as it could be considering the little one is sick.

Well, I can tell you that I am very frustrated.  I am over the sickness thing!!!!  It seems like once a month, CB gets sick.  Last month was her first ear infection.  We were scheduled for a month follow up on Friday to make sure everything was okay.  It so happens that she got sick on Sunday last week.  She was doing really well near the end of the week.  The doctor said there was still a little fluid in there.  This meant, it was either draining or was going to turn into an infection (but no infection at the time). 

Well, Friday night she woke up with a 102 fever and nothing could bring it down all day.  But, she was such a happy girl and no symptoms of an ear infection or anything else.  She napped for about 6 hours on and off yesterday and her fever broke right before bed.

Today, her mood started off great but then turned sour and no fever all day.  Tonight, she was happy again but the fever came back.  What is going on?

Oh, and while we were at the doctor, she said her molars are starting to come in!  I was hoping for a little break from teething.   

So it could be her teeth, ear infection, strep throat, or something completely different.  Only time will tell.  We are hoping she wakes up tomorrow good as new.

Life of a working mom!

I think this is the longest I have gone without a post and I am sorry.  This week was report card week which is very time consuming (especially for 30 students).  Every extra minute I have had has gone into preparing those lovely things and then I crash.  I am looking forward to working on other projects now and just spending as much time with the little one.  She is doing great!!!

Last weekend, our friend Aaron came in town for a visit before he leaves for baseball.  Callie Beth loves guys and just couldn’t get enough of Uncle Aaron (and he couldn’t get enough of her).  He was so great with her. 

Callie Beth loves reading which is exciting to me since this is what I teach.  She is lucky to have so many wonderful books and access to so many more in my classroom. 

I must say Callie Beth is not a great teether.  She always gets a little fever, a little fussy and LOTS of drool.  Everything goes in her mouth.  Those darn things seem to come in very slow.  Usually about once a month.  She has been wonderful the last couple of weeks so I was presently surprised to see another bottom tooth this morning!  Yea!  No symptoms!  She is now up to 7 teeth.

10 Months Old!

Callie Beth is 10 months old!  Where is the time going?  With in the last month, we have seen the most changes.

weight……..17 pounds 2 ounces……10th percentile

height……..29 1/4 inches……….80th percentile

• She can stand on her own for as long as she wants (when she wants to).  She has taken a step (2 steps once).  She very sturdy but lacks the confidence. 
• She can clap, wave, and can do “so big”
• She dances by swaying her head and her hips back and forth and sings in her own little language.  She also attempts the hand motions to “Itsy Bitsy Spider”.
• She finally said Ma-ma…although I don’t think it was directed towards me.  She says Da-da all the time.  She talks ALL the time in her own little language and she thinks she is quite funny.
• She also says ‘Yea’ and shakes her head yes with expression.
• She understands No (and doesn’t always like it) and likes to shake her head no at you.
• She knows not to touch our wood stove.
• I have started to see a little attitude/temper in the last month.
• She now has 6 teeth (the 6th is coming in right now).
• She will roll a ball back to you.
• She is using a Sippy cup most of the day.
• She sleeps on her belly and I have come to terms that there is nothing I can do about it.  I try to roll her over to her back and she rolls right back to her belly. 
• She is a great eater (not that you can tell by her weight).  She loves most everything and always wants what we are eating.  She likes French fries, mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken bones, and scrambled eggs
• She is just now graduating to size 3 diapers and is still in 6-9 month clothes (although some of the pants look like she is ready for the flood).

I must say I love things that are personalized.  One shop that I really like is Custom Baby Boutique.  I came across these nap mats and thought they were adorable.  Thinking ahead, I thought this could be useful for when CB goes to daycare.  So when my mom asked what she could get Callie Beth for Christmas, I told her this!

You can design them in many different fabrics.  The blanket is attached inside with a pillow sewn in.  Of course with knowing our household, I picked the cute girly deer theme.  I  am SO pleased with the quality and how it turned out!  I know CB will love it for many years to come!  Thanks Mom!

Our Little Singer

Callie Beth now sings with me (well, in her own language).  Jake snuck in a caught it on tape so the quality and the sound isn’t the best.  I just have to share this because it is so sweet.  Please excuse my lovely sweats and the wonderful singing voice. 

If you look close you can see that she is also trying to mimic the hands motions to Itsy Bitsy Spider. :)

So Big!

We have been working on ‘So Big’ lately.  I have tried to get it on video but every time that happens, she won’t do it.  I finally got it today.  She has also started saying “yea” while shaking her head.  I was lucky to get both in one video.  So cute!  Enjoy!

Florida Trip

Callie Beth and I flew down to West Palm Beach on the 26th.  I was REALLY dreading the long flight with such an active little girl.  When I mean active, I mean she is ALWAYS moving.  The airport staff were amazing in Portland.  I went to the front of the security line and they helped with everything.  We flew from Portland to Dallas and then from Dallas to West Palm Beach.  I must say she did very well.  She didn’t fuss once on first flight and slept about an hour and a half.  (She is also not one to fall asleep on you.  She likes her bed).  The second flight, she fussed a few minutes and then was out for another hour and a half.  The actual flying time is about 7 hours.  A long time with a little one by yourself.  After a delay, we made it in pretty late.  Mandy and Patrick picked us up from the airport and off we went to the hotel.

We were really busy once we got there.  We threw a baby shower for my sister (who is due in March).  We did some shopping, swimming, and we also visited with a lot of people.  I was really happy she got to meet all of the family (especially her great grandmother).

Overall, the trip was very hard on Callie Beth.  She was fussy and a little temper even came out.  (She also has two teeth coming in now).  Nothing was familiar to her.  It wasn’t her bed, her house, and everyone was strangers to her.  Needless to say, I COULD NOT be out of her sight or the tears started flowing.  Her clock was all messed up.  She would hardly eat.  I never realized what traveling could do to someone who is so reliant on her routines.  Everyone kept saying what a good baby she was….but I really didn’t think she was being good.  The way she was acting was not her at all.  And I know she really missed her Daddy. 

We flew back on New Years Eve and we were lucky to be in first class.  I think it is funny that you can tell right away the people who do not have children by looking at their face when you get on a plane.  The guy next to me was not a happy man and Callie Beth was being impossible.  All she wanted to do was crawl around and of course I couldn’t let her.  So for about an hour and fifteen minutes, I dealt with it.  We both had hears.  The flight attendant kept the champagne coming :)  She finally went to sleep and slept for about 2 hours.  I REALLY lucked out and had an empty seat in first class on the 4 hour flight from Dallas to Portland (the only empty seat on the plane).  Callie Beth slept the entire 4 hours!  I was so proud of her.  We were delayed a little and by the time we got off the plane and to Jake, it was almost 12.  Just in time for my New Years kiss.  By the way: the guy next to me said he had a “whole new outlook on infants and that she was remarkable”.  He also asked me where Oregon was and what grade she was in?  LOL….Are you kidding me?????

We are glad we went.  I will try to not fly with an infant by myself again.  We were REALLY glad to be home; especially Callie Beth.  She was back to her normal self right away.  She slept 13 hours in her crib without a peep both nights.  Home Sweet Home!
